Strategy: Wizard[]

The wizard is an extremely flexible unit that uses swapping to create powerful combinations with nearby allies. It has a mid-level cost and is best used with units that will benefit from its mobility. It thrives when placed in the center of the board with a variety of allies to swap with.

Strength: Wizard[]

The wizard's cost is low enough that it can be used to defend against most high value attackers, and it can escape from most danger by swapping with allied minions. It is especially effective when used with the upgraded fireball to create forks against champions or high value minions, or just create strong board control. Its unblockable attacks also allow it to go through armor, and combined with its movements are able to make great forking threats.

Weakness: Wizard[]

Wizard cannot set up swaps without moving to the relevant square first, so strong board control will make it impossible to use most offensive tactics. Its cost is extremely high for its mediocre attack range. Additionally, the Wizard's longest attack range is 2, so it can be zoned out of most important fights by longer ranged or lower value units.

Trivia[]

  • Although a wizard is usually meant to cast magic (and is in fact one of Joseph Lormand's true forms), the Wizard in this game is more like a construction crew.[1]
  • The wizard is the first unit featured in the Chess Evolved Online Trailer that wasn't a classic chess piece.
